Hay shortages in your area?

Another warm day today. Here we are just beginning spring and we are trying to figure out how much hay we can get a hold of by fall. Is anyone else experiencing either no available hay or hay that's priced to the moon? We sure are. Most of the hay suppliers have opted to tear up the hay fields and plant corn. The few remaining suppliers have a corner on the market and they price their hay high.

I believe this will affect all farmers eventually, but homesteaders are feeling it now. How does this affect the small farmer or the homesteader? It makes it darned tough to raise cattle, goats, sheep or horses. Hay is their mainstay and there comes a point in time that you have to bite the bullet and get your numbers of livestock down in order to be able to feed them well.

I'm greatly disturbed about this turn of events. It takes away people's options for grass/hay fed meat. It also makes meat higher in the grocery stores eventually. Sadly, I think I see a day that homesteaders are homesteading without livestock. We will all pay if that sad day comes.

Would love to hear your thoughts! Don't let my DebbieDowner get you down too..lol. Just things to keep in mind as we head into spring and the breeding schedules are being looked at.

See you tomorrow!
